Extra-Curricular experiences are offered throughout the year such as a Tennis Skills Class and a dedicated sports program, building on children’s physical development; the children will learn basic ball handling, balancing and build on hand eye coordination skills.

What we offer

Our philosophy is reviewed with educators, parent and community feedback to guide our best practice and ensure we meet the needs of our families and communities.

Here at Eight Mile Plains Community Children’s Centre we acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which we meet and pay our respects to the elders’ past, present and emerging. These are the Yuggera and Yugambeh language groups. Indigenous perspectives are embedded in our program and practice.

Eight Mile Plains Community Children’s Centre is a place that celebrates diversity and inclusion. Being located in the heart of the local community we are able to cater to the individual needs of children and their families.

We recognize that parents / carers are the children’s first teacher: therefore, partnerships with our families is an integral part of our decision-making process. We respect the backgrounds, cultures, values and beliefs of our children, families and staff and these inform our programming and practice.

About our multimedia classes

Early Learning Framework

In conjunction with the Early Years Learning Framework and the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines our program is child centered where children’s agency is promoted and we respond respectfully to children’s interests, abilities, strengths and ideas. We use intentional teaching to extend children’s learning to ensure we support their social, emotional, foundational and physical development. We work collaboratively with children to create environments that stimulate and inspire a sense of curiosity, delight and enthusiasm for learning.

Our planning cycle includes critical reflection, observation, recording of children’s voices, written learning stories, open dialogue between educators and families and extension of children’s interests. Sustainability is embedded into our program and children learn how to become responsible members of our global community. Healthy living is also a critical aspect of our curriculum and learning experiences around healthy food, hygiene and exercise occur consistently.

Our educators are caring, attentive, highly qualified and dedicated to their chosen profession. Educators are committed to social justice, fairness and equity. Educators individual strengths are included in the program and the Centre has a supportive team culture. As a group we work together on continuous improvement, reflecting on practices and individually setting professional development goals.
